OMED Health’s Exciting Breakthrough. Non-Invasive Gut Diagnosis

Pharma-Forum

A recent article in Pharmaforum, the online forum for the pharmaceutical industry to share learnings, insights, and advances in the field, has featured OMED Health and our plans to tackle the diagnosis crisis within digestive health. Written by our CEO Billy Boyle and Dr Madeleine Ball, discusses the prevalence of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and its personal and the socio-economic impacts.

IBS diagnosis is usually made after clinical tests rule out other conditions, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), coeliac disease, or cancer. For those who suffer from IBS, the frustrating and life-limiting symptoms can seem endless, with no clear treatment or little guidance available.

IBS and breath analysis.

At OMED Health, we understand the difficulties patients often need to tackle to receive a diagnosis for their gut health issues and how the introduction of a non-invasive breath tests could help. Previously digestive health disorders have been diagnosed through invasive procedures, such as endoscopy, but the recent introduction of hydrogen methane breath tests allows patients to undergo non-invasive diagnosis, often in the comfort of their own home. However the article states:

Many commercial tests are available that measure levels of hydrogen and methane in exhaled breath, but these can suffer from inaccuracy and a lack of standardised protocols for breath collection. This is why Owlstone Medical has recently launched OMED Health, which offers clinicians and patients access to at-home breath test kits for the diagnosis and monitoring of gut health problems like SIBO and carbohydrate malabsorption.

We are able to offer these breath tests for SIBO and food intolerances to people in the UK at the cost of £250, which includes guidance from one of our associated consultant specialists who can discuss and plan treatment, if required, after testing.

Do not forget to make sure you are signed up to the waitlist to be the first to know about the release of the OMED Health Analyzer and App later this year and for a chance to be involved in our user testing.
