We are delighted to see our CEO Billy Boyle featured on BBC Click’s program discussing how breath analysis can revolutionize monitoring technology to empower patients and their doctors to improve healthcare decision-making. BBC Click focuses on the tools that may revolutionize business and everyday life. Our upcoming launch of at-home hydrogen and methane breath testing devices was featured, demonstrating the power breath analysis can provide to those suffering from digestive health issues.
In this program, it is discussed how breath testing provides the opportunity to measure gases that pertain to the activity of the gut microbiome, which may provide insight alongside a clinician’s advice into the diagnosis of certain conditions such as carbohydrate malabsorption, or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.
BBC Click presenter Lara Lewington visited our laboratories in Cambridge UK, and was able to breathe into the OMED Health Analyzer prototype. Levels of hydrogen and methane within the breath sample were displayed on a screen and Billy explained how symptom tracking was an important part of the diagnosis.
During the segment, Lara and Billy discuss how many commercial gut health tests are available that measure levels of hydrogen and methane in exhaled breath, but these can suffer from inaccuracy and a lack of standardized protocol for breath collection. With the experience we have built up from years of breath research at Owlstone Medical, we decided to launch OMED Health to offer clinicians and patients access to at-home breath test kits for the diagnosis and monitoring of gut health problems like SIBO and carbohydrate malabsorption.
If you would like to find out more about how breath tests can help with the diagnosis of digestive health conditions, you can join our waitlist today to be one of the first to receive your own breath test device later this year.
