Biomarkers of the microbiome.
‘The Microbiologist’ has recently published an article written by two of our colleagues, Dr. Madeleine Ball and Dr. Hsuan (Tina) Chou! Madeleine and Tina discuss in this article how the gut microbiome can produce compounds that can be measured in breath. These compounds could be indicators of gut disorders, such as small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO).
The article highlights that there are breath tests available in clinical settings, such as a breath test for Helicobacter pylori infections in the gut. More recently, hydrogen methane breath tests (HMBTs) are routinely used to diagnose conditions such as SIBO and carbohydrate malabsorption (such as lactose and fructose intolerance). You can purchase these tests from our dedicated page.
We are working hard to make breath tests for gut health issues more accessible to you and your healthcare professionals. Our OMED Health Breath Analyzer and App can allow you to track your gut microbiome by measuring the hydrogen and methane levels in your breath, alongside your lifestyle factors. Our network of experts can analyze this data and provide you with a personalized treatment plan so that you can make the best decisions for your gut microbiome.
