Treatment Strategies

Once a diagnosis of Intestinal Methanogen Overgrowth (IMO), (otherwise known as methane-dominant SIBO) has been confirmed, the goal of treatment is to restore balance in the gut and address factors that may contribute to bacterial overgrowth. Treatment approaches are tailored to each individual and may include dietary adjustments, lifestyle modification, and antimicrobial therapy – either prescription-based or natural, clinically supported herbal formulations.

At OMED Health, our clinical team provides guidance through every step, from test interpretation to personalised treatment and ongoing monitoring via the OMED Breath Analyzer and App.

FAQs

Find answers to your common questions about OMED Health IMO.

In which countries is OMED Health available?

Diagnosis and treatment from OMED Health is available in the UK only. You can purchase an OMED Health Breath Analyzer outside of the UK to enable you to monitor your gut health, however you would need to find a local doctor who can assist with interpreting your hydrogen and methane scores and advise on the best treatment for you.

Are there any side effects?

These products are generally well-tolerated when used as directed. However, as with any food supplement, individuals may react differently. Occasionally, mild digestive changes such as increased gas or changes in bowel movements can occur as your gut adjusts. If you experience persistent discomfort, discontinue use and contact customer support.

Are these antimicrobials the same as antibiotics?

No. These are food supplements containing plant-based extracts traditionally used to support digestive health and microbial balance. Antibiotics are prescription-only medicines used under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

Can I take them alongside my usual medications?

If you are taking prescription medication or have a diagnosed medical condition, speak with your doctor or pharmacist before starting any new supplement. This is especially important if your medication affects digestion or gut health.

Do I need to test before using them?

It’s not essential, but testing can help you better understand your gut health and whether microbial imbalance may be contributing to your symptoms. Please see our SIBO test if you require more information. If you have ongoing digestive issues, consult a healthcare professional for advice on whether testing is appropriate.

Will I need to retest after finishing the course?

Retesting can be a useful way to assess changes in your gut environment over time, track progress and inform any future steps. Please see our SIBO test if you require more information

What if I don’t feel better after?

Everyone’s gut health is unique, and results can vary. If you don’t notice an improvement after finishing the course, consider discussing your symptoms with a healthcare professional. They can help you explore other treatments and factors, such as diet, lifestyle, or further testing, to better understand what’s driving your digestive concerns.
